Rare Antique Creek Chub Fishing Lures

Creek Chub lures of the early 1900's featured some of the most interesting advances in angling technology of their day. The Creek Chub Bait Company's first patented lure was the Wiggler, which had a protruding lip at the front end that would cause it to wobble back and forth as it was retrieved. The idea was to simulate the swimming motion of a minnow, rather than the dead appearance of a piece of streamlined wood being towed through the water. Creek Chub's early wood lures were made to appear to have scales by painting them with an undercoat, covering them with a fabric mesh, then painting them again in a contrasting color. They attached glass eyes to these vintage wood lures, further enhancing the lifelike appearance. Attempting to address a common frustration among many fishermen, Creek Chub also developed and patented weedless hooks for their lures. Creek Chub favorites such as the Pikie and Injured Minnow are very popular collectible lures today, and examples with the correct, original box are the most collectible.
